All in the Family

Geeta Dave and her two children

Learning is a family affair for Geeta Dave, 58, and her two children (above). Dave, along with her daughter Leena, 28, and son Prateek, 25, recently earned their master’s degrees from the School of Library and Information Sciences at North Carolina Central University. “The teachers said they’d seen a father and son and a brother and sister, but never a mother and two children,” says Dave. The threesome ended up in some of the same classes and regularly sat around the dining table to study and exchange ideas. “Education has always been a primary concern for my husband and me,” adds Dave, whose family emigrated from Nagpur, India 10 years ago.

Foote Named New ALSC Director

Diane Foote (left), formerly an associate editor for Book Links magazine, is the new executive director of the Association for Library Service to Children. Foote, who began her new position on January 17, was previously director of marketing at Holiday House and an editor, reviewer, and marketing consultant at William Morrow & Co. How does she feel about making the transition from the publishing to library world? “We are all marketing the same thing: quality materials for children,” says Foote, who is completing her MLIS at the University of Illinois.
