Dear Day

By Laura B. Weiss -- School Library Journal, 3/1/2006

Got 30 minutes? April 12 is national Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) day, and Ramona Quimby, the beloved character created by author Beverly Cleary, is the official spokesperson. It’s no coincidence that DEAR day also coincides with Cleary’s 90th birthday.

Sponsored by the Association for Library Service to Children, the National Education Association, and other groups, families are asked to put aside all distractions and enjoy books for a half hour.
