Cute Overload

By Kathy Ishizuka -- School Library Journal, 6/1/2006

Cuteoverload.com

If you’re seeking an abundance of cute—an overload, in fact—this is the site for you. Offering nothing more than image after image of cute, cuddly animals, Cute Overload has a large following, earning the site a coveted 2006 Webby Award in the People’s Voice category. Even the most jaded Web crawlers will succumb to the sight of a scrum of butter yellow ducklings mobbing a prone Malamute—I know I did. Then there’s the two-week-old baby Russian dwarf hamster, whose fuzz barely exceeds the size of the adjacent penny or what looks to be a days-old spotted piglet sniffing a daffodil. For an interactive experience, you can test your cuteness quotient by identifying the “rules of cuteness” exemplified by various photos or submit your own cute image.

So what’s the educational value? And where are the professional development opportunities? Well there is such a thing as burnout, folks. So if you’re ever feeling a bit overwhelmed—by too much information, technology, testing, whatever—or feel you need to just lighten up, remember there’s “All bunny Tuesdays” at Cute Overload.
