The Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) in Lakewood, CO, will unveil a unique children's literacy program in February called Knott's Kids, in celebration of library director Bill Knott's 35 years of service.
The program will offer kids ages 5 to 12 exposure to interactive displays that spark the desire for knowledge. In addition, Project Bookpack will provide children's books to underprivileged children at partner locations throughout the community.
Knott's Kids partners include Dinosaur Ridge, Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum, Colorado Railroad Museum, Museo de las Americas, Hiwan Homestead, and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. The partners will also contribute materials for displays, such as dinosaur fossils, trains, information on the experiments of Benjamin Franklin, and Colonial-era implements and demonstrations, all of which will be supplemented by children's library books on those subjects. The exhibits will tour JCPL's ten branches, partner locations, and other venues that reach children. All costs will be covered by private donations, says JCPL spokesperson Sabrina Hall.
