Looking for some interesting titles for Women's History Month in March? Check out the Amelia Bloomer Project, which develops an annual list of feminist books for young readers.Sponsored by the American Library Association's Feminist Task Force of the Social Responsibility Round Table, the Amelia Bloomer Project recommends the best fiction and nonfiction for children and teens that reflect girls and women in positive roles.
The books on this year's list, according to the project's Web site, include titles that "look to our roots and gaze toward the future." Included are biographies of women "who shattered the limitations placed on women regarding science, politics, sports, activism, civil and women's rights." Also included are fantasies featuring girls "taking charge of their situations despite obstacles." Finally, books on the list include contemporary and historical fiction focusing on the fight for equality and rights that many take for granted."
The 2007 list, as well as the previous five lists, are available at www.libr.org/ftf/bloomer.html.
