A Safer MySpace?
By Staff -- School Library Journal, 9/1/2007
The Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Library System has created its own social networking site to attract more teens—and reduce the risk of online dangers. MyOwnCafe.org is open to any 13- to 18-year-old with a library card from any of the system’s more than 100 public libraries. Users can access any of the libraries’ databases, but the real draw is the site’s online community for teens. “They talk to each other on topics such as books, news and politics, poetry, anime, and gaming,” says the library’s Kathy Lussier.
