Library Hosts Space Talk
By Staff -- School Library Journal, 10/1/2007
The Gail Borden Public Library District in Elgin, IL, is the nation’s first library to host a live chat between kids and an astronaut. On September 5, local students got a chance to speak to NASA astronaut Clay Anderson, who was orbiting 200 miles above Earth at more than 17,000 miles per hour aboard the International Space Station. Contact between the students and Anderson was made via ham radio and NASA’s Amateur Radio International Space Station program. The discussion is available on the library’s Web site at www.elgin.lib.il.us.
