Dropout Prevention

By Staff -- School Library Journal, 11/1/2007

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has come up with a great way to help at-risk students and dropouts—it’s using YouTube, MySpace, text messaging, and radio stations to get its word out.

“My Future, My Decision” has a Web component that offers information and resources on obtaining a high school diploma. Popular local radio stations Power 106 and V100 are also spreading the word through paid advertisements and Web site promotions.

“We have a dropout crisis in LAUSD, and we must act boldly and aggressively to offer our students every opportunity to succeed,” says School Board President Monica Garcia.
