Nominate a Library for the Information Literacy Goal Award

If you know of a public or school library with an innovative information literacy program, consider nominating it for the World Book/ALA Information Literacy Goal Award—and a chance for each to win $5,000.

The award promotes effective information literacy programs that focus on users who are likely to need the most help in obtaining access to print and digital information and evaluating the quality of the information.

"Information literacy forms the basis of what all people, whether young students or adults, need to ensure they are equipped for lifelong learning," says World Book President Paul Gazzolo. "This award will help people of all ages become effective users of information by fostering a better understanding of the research process."

The award replaces the World Book-ALA Goal Grant Award, which was created in 1960 and has supported nearly 60 research projects advancing library services.

"We are very pleased to be strengthening our collaboration with World Book to promote information literacy and extend the impact this award can have across public libraries and school settings," says ALA Executive Director Keith Michael Fiels.

The first World Book/ALA Information Literacy Goal Award will be presented at the 2009 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA, from June 26 to July 2. Nominations will be taken from June 1 through December 1, 2008, and the form is available on the ALA Awards Web site. One public library or public library system program and one school library program will receive a $5,000 honorarium.
