If you know any high school students with creative digital skills, you might check out a new contest from Adobe.

The San Jose, CA-based software maker is seeking creative high school students to submit their best work for its Adobe Innovation Awards already underway.

Under the theme “My Community—My Planet—My 21st Century,” students in grades 9–12 are invited to enter their best samples in Web design and development, film and video, and graphic and print design.

Entries can be anything from a blog to a documentary, a yearbook, or a selection of photography. But all works must have been created primarily with Adobe tools. In addition, all submissions need to be uploaded digitally to the competition Web site to be considered. The deadline for entering is 5 p.m. PST on May 12, 2008.

Winners will be announced at the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) in San Antonio, TX, held this year at the end of June. The best entry in each category will receive $1,500, a Lenovo laptop, and Adobe software. In addition, the top winner will be invited to attend NECC, including roundtrip airfare and hotel accommodations for themselves plus a chaperone.

With schools fighting for technology funding, finding new ways for students to engage in the digital arts can be helpful in encouraging their pursuits.

Public and private students from all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia and Canada, except Quebec, are invited to compete. Their entries must include a letter from a teacher certifying that they’re a full-time student, along with proof of enrollment and a valid student ID.
