Attention all shoppers. First Book, the Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization that distributes new books to needy children nationwide, has a deal you can’t resist: free and deeply discounted books. Information on how to take advantage of First Book's upcoming offer will be the focus of an April 22 conference call to members of the Association for Library Service to Children, First Book's latest partner.

The conference call will take place on Tuesday, April 22 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. (ET). To get in on the action, participants must first register online. Those already registered can send an email [rvoorhees@firstbook.org] to Rachael Voorhees, First Book's director of recipient group outreach, to obtain the phone number and password to participate in the call.

The purpose of the call, which is open to all librarians and educators, says Voorhees, is "to give them an opportunity to speak with First Book staff members and one another, to talk about how to best utilize First Book resources, [and] to bring new books to low-income families in their communities."

Another topic of the upcoming call will be First Book's El Día de Los Niòos/El Día de Los Libros celebration on April 30. "We are excited to provide Spanish and bilingual titles," says Voorhees, "and we'd love some insight and direction and thoughts from members on the call as to which titles and resources would be helpful for next year's celebration as well."
