K-Gr 2–Witches, in case you didn’t know, are afraid of humans. After all, humans aren’t green, they don’t cackle and, as a general rule, they’re afraid to fly. Every witch knows that. But a very brave little witch studies humans and, on Halloween, decides to do some research. To her surprise, not all humans are alike. Funny how personal experience can blow conventional wisdom out of the water. Based on Alison McGhee’s picture book (S & S/Paula Wiseman Books, 2006), this simple, humorous story features Harry Bliss’s bright cartoon illustrations that have been animated. Elle Fanning’s narration is delivered in a happy, young voice; a few other voices pipe in as well. Read-along subtitles are optional. This 2008 ALSC Notable Video has applications beyond Halloween.
