Online Storytime

By Staff -- School Library Journal, 5/1/2008

The Gadsden Public Library in Alabama is about to put storytime online and on local public TV—sans a live librarian. Armed with a $25,000 Library Services and Technology Act grant, the goal is to help many single-parent households in the area, says Carol York, the library’s outreach coordinator. The cable TV storytime and a 24-hour library webcast will have library staffers and broadcast interns from Gadsden High School appear as readers. If all goes as planned, tapings could begin this month; the program will kick off in October.
