Make Your Own Someday: Silly Songs for the Shorter Set. CD. 31:02 min. with lyrics. Gimme Jimmies. 2007. $15.

K-Gr 4–This debut album by Ashley Albert and her band, The Jimmies, is pure pleasure. It’s unusual to find an all original album that blends lyrics, vocals, and music so well. The sophisticated lyrics will have listeners learning a bit more than they realize while having fun. The opening song, “What’s That Sound?,” encourages listeners to name the instruments being played throughout the song. Familiar themes such as messy morning hair, cold weather, peanut butter, and tadpoles are presented in a fresh, fun, and sometimes unexpected way. There’s a silly new birthday song here, as well as a piece about covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze. “Spanimals” features the Spanish names for animals, and will have kids singing along: “Call your chicken el pollo when you have a little chat, and know that la vaca con sombrero is just a cow with a hat.” Don’t miss this entertaining collection of really silly songs.
