Scieszka, Gaiman at 2008 National Book Festival

Listen up Jon Scieszka, Kadir Nelson, and David Shannon fans—if you plan to be in our nation’s capital on September 27, you’ll see these favorite authors and more at the 8th Annual National Book Festival, a free event sponsored by the Library of Congress and hosted by First Lady Laura Bush.
More than 70 authors, including children and YA authors like Tiki Barber, Neil Gaiman, and Marc Brown, will join book lovers to celebrate the daylong event on the National Mall from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., rain or shine.
Kids will also enjoy seeing some of their favorite characters, including Clifford the Big Red Dog, Super Why, Abby Cadabby from Sesame Street, and Curious George, as well as participate in fun activities with their families.
Attendees will browse the many pavilions offering all kinds of reading genres—such as Mystery & Fiction, Children, Teens & Children, Home & Family and History and Biography And PBS plans to have various performances including "The Electric Company" stage shows and sing-alongs with Steve Songs of PBS kids. Scholastic publishing also will have children's book readings by the popular Ms. Frizzle, science demonstrations by the Dirtmeister and the popular Klutz Build-a-Book center.
