At this year’s ALA Midwinter in Denver SLJTeen caught up with the presidential candidates for both the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) and asked them to answer the question, “Why should you be president of your division?” in 50 words or less.AASL Presidential Candidates
Nancy Everhart
Nancy is director of the School Library Media Program and Partnerships Advancing Library Media (PALM) Center at the College of Information, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL.

Terri Kirk
Terri is the library media specialist at Reidland High School, Paducah, KY.
“As a high school librarian, I am in touch with the concerns and issues that affect another school librarians and, as the leader of AASL, I will use my professional relationships throughout ALA to enhance collaborative ventures that will benefit our members and our students.” (45 words)
YALSA Presidential Candidates
Jerene Battisti
Jerene is Educational Services Coordinator at the King County Library System, Issaquah, WA.
“I believe I have the vision and the leadership skills necessary to guide YALSA in 2010-2011. My motto is ‘Collaborate. Create. Succeed’ and I strongly believe that this is what makes YALSA such a vibrant organization. I have attained a position of leadership on state and national levels and this gives me the experience to bring to the Presidency of YALSA.” (61 words – oops!)

Kim Patton
Kim is Central Youth Services Teen Librarian, Kansas City Public Library, Kansas City, MO.
“I am a third year YALSA Board of Directors member so I bring the experience of already knowing how the board works and the best ways to accomplish a lot in a small amount of time.
