Make a Book Trailer—Everybody’s Doing It!

Terri Clark -- School Library Journal, 5/20/2009

Terri Clark, teen patron services specialist at Smoky Hill Library, Arapahoe Library District in Colorado and her Teen Advisory Board group just created their first book trailer, and can’t wait to do it again. The teens selected Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief from a recent list of Colorado Blue Spruce Young Adult Book Award nominees as their first feature.

The library’s digital services department sponsored the project, and purchased a copy of the book for each teen, who had one month to read it and select their three favorite scenes. With Clark’s assistance, the teens wrote a script, created costumes, provided props, and filmed the video right on the library’s grounds. Clark is very proud of her group, and plans are already in place to create another live-action trailer this fall. Check out Smoky Hill Library’s mini-movie on YouTube.
