A Million Out of 10-Relient K's The Birds and the Bee Sides

-- School Library Journal, 05/20/2009

This album is very dynamic. It’s fun and exciting but has a slow and steady side to it. Almost every song made me want to dance every single time. Their sound is always different in each album but they still keep their original sound in a way. Past albums include All Work and No Play (2008), Five Score and Seven Years Ago (2007), MMHMM (2004), and Deck the Halls Bruise Your Hands (2003).

This is most definitely one of Relient K’s best albums ever. Unlike their other albums, this one has twice the amount of songs because it’s on two discs. Disc one is kind of calm and inspiring but at a fast pace. And toward the end it starts to wind down to a medium pace. The beginning of the disc two is mostly fast paced and lively but also very inspirational.

The song that I really like on the first disc is The Lining is Silver. That song really spoke to me, because it was focusing on the fact that in life there are stretches where you get yourself into a rough time but if you look at the bright side, it will make you happy and help you get through your bad situation. It also had very nice beat for dancing. Another song that I really like on the second disc is Vinyl Countdown. The beginning of the song is so ironic because you think that the beginning is just a weird sounding kind of beat with drums in it but after about five seconds it has a rocky edge to it. The music makes you so alive and happy just because of the rocking beat. I can relate to this song so much because it talks about kids today and technology being almost the only thing they care about which is so true.

The song that I don’t like on this album is Beaming. It’s a really good song, but it is only a minute long! I wanted it to keep going every time I heard it. Other than that, this is a really great album. It just changes your entire mood when you listen to it with its awesome and funny lyrics and ironic titles. This album is definitely a million out of 10. It’s also available to listen online at rhapsody.com. (Gotee Records. 2008.
