Editor's NoteYesterday, ten university press directors signed a statement supporting "free access to scientific, technical, and medical journal articles no later than 12 months after publication." The move "puts them at odds with the official stance of the Association of American University Presses," according to the Chronicle of Higher Education's News Blog. But it also puts these
smaller presses in an ideological camp along with the small but growing number of university faculties that have formally endorsed Open Access principles, as well as many of their librarian counterparts on campus.
