Audiobooks and Young Adults

Dodie Ownes -- School Library Journal, 10/7/2009

According to the Audio Publishers Association 2008 consumer survey, young listeners are the fastest growing market segment for audiobooks. Fifty three percent of teens have listened to an audiobook, and just slightly less, 52 percent of people aged 18-24 listen to audiobooks.

Start an audiobook revolution of your own by stocking up on these 21 titles (20 fiction, 1 nonfiction) from the Young Adult Library Services Association’s 2009 Amazing Audiobooks for Young Adults list. Whether your teens are looking for something dark and post-apocalyptic (The Compound, Brilliance Audio, 2008, by S.A. Bodeen) or to take a fantasy trip (Fairest, Full Cast Audio, 2007, by Gail Carson Levine), this list can give you great start to create a collection that will appeal to young adults.
