Asleep in the Bread Aisle by Asher Roth
Asher Roth is a unique rapper. He makes intelligent and intriguing music with a truly distinct style. He is best known for the I Love College song and YouTube video, and is sometimes referred to as another Eminem. This album (Universal Motown, April 2009) is fresh and the beat makes you want to dance and party. My favorite song on the album is Sour Patch Kids.
It took real genius to create this really awesome song which has a great beat and is about my favorite candy to boot. I believe that Asher Roth will go far in the rap world. His music is insightful and makes you think about things in such a positive way. He really relates his music to what people go through every day. You can listen to his album on rhapsody.com. I look forward to hearing more from him in the future.—Ludjjy E., Gr 9, Floral Park (NY) Memorial High School
Guitar Hero 5
Guitar Hero 5 has 85 tracks and covers a variety of rock music. There are heavy metal bands like Deep Purple, classic rock from bands such as the Rolling Stones, and alternative rock from Smashing Pumpkins and up-and-coming groups like Muse. In order to counter the Wii platform’s multiplayer capacity, Guitar Hero 5 is much more social than previous versions. Players can enter or leave a song without hurting a friend’s rating. You also have the ability to do more customization than in the earlier versions. You can switch difficulty levels and the instrument that you’re playing in the middle of a song. One very cool feature is the ability to mix the combination of instruments so if all your friends want to play the same one, they can. The music is accessed right as soon as you start, so players can get right into it as soon as you begin to play. If a mass competition is in the works, players can use the Rockfest mode. Rockfest provides a variety of challenges, including my personal favorite, Momentum, which adjusts a player’s skill level according to his or her performance. Definitely lots of fun for everyone. For use with XBOX 360, Playstation3, Wii, and Playstation 2.—Ellie R., Gr 11, Floral Park (NY) Memorial High School
