A 'Wrinkle' in Primetime

A Wrinkle in Time is finally coming (or tessering) to the screen. The small screen, that is.
In January, Madeleine L'Engle's awarding-winning kids' classic will air on ABC, as a Wonderful World of Disney two-part mini-series. The project is the brainchild of Catherine Hand, who first read the book nearly 40 years ago, after she was banished to the school library as punishment for talking in class. The librarian handed the then–11-year-old schoolgirl a copy of the novel.
"I just loved this book so much that I took out a piece of paper and a pen and started a letter to Walt Disney," Hand told the Vancouver Sun. "I wanted to tell him about this book and have him star me as Meg," the story's protagonist. "And then I was very concerned that Mr. Disney might not get it right. So I thought, 'God, I've got to grow up and make it myself.'"
Now, thanks to a helping hand from Miramax, Hand, who went on to work behind the camera with TV producer Norman Lear, will be co-executive producer of the miniseries. Actress Alfre Woodard has been cast as Mrs Whatsit, Kate Nelligan as Mrs Which, Alison Elliott as Mrs Who, and Katie Smith will star as Meg.
