The Reader’s Advisor Online Blog
June 28, 2007
If you haven’t yet taken a look at the Reader’s Advisor Online blog yet, do (RAO is the RA product from Libraries Unlimited/Greenwood Publishing Group, and a direct competitor with EBSCO’s NoveList). The new blog is the home page for the Reader’s Advisor Online, but the blog and related content at the page are free to everyone – not just subscribers.
There’s useful reader advisory material all over the blog page, including consensus bestsellers (“Bestseller Mashup,” a list of the top selling fiction and narrative nonfiction titles based on averaging several bestseller lists), weekly hot new titles (“New This Week”), a host of related features (“A Closer Look,” “From the Editor,” “In the News,” “RAO Spotlight,” “Tips and Fun Stuff”), and other timely links (during ALA Annual there was a “Live Reports from ALA” section, for instance).
RAO Editor Cindy Orr of Cleveland Public Library (one of six RA experts on the impressive RAO Advisory Board) notes, “We hope it will be the first place reader’s advisors will go on Monday mornings as they prepare to serve their patrons in the coming week, and at the start of each shift for a quick update of what’s happening in the world of books.”
It will be interesting to see if, and how, NoveList responds to RAO’s upping the RA ante with this free service.
More as it happens,
Cheryl
