Digital Images of Art are Worth Many Thousands of Words
March 24, 2008
My contact at Marquis Who's Who sent word about their new Who’s Who in American Art Artists’ Gallery, a completely free site designed to feature the works of nearly 200 hundred artists profiled in Who’s Who in American Art – and it is something to ooh and ahh over. The opening screen is a rotating slide show of the work featured in the file, with variously-sized images whose color and artistry draw you in immediately.
You can browse the file alphabetically by artist name as well as by the media in which artists work (Acrylic, Digital, Mixed Media, Oil, Other Media, Pastel, Photography, Sculpture, and Watercolor). Each entry includes a thumbnail of one or more of the artist’s work, which you can “blow up” to larger images that include the title of the work, date it was created, description of the media, dimensions, contact information for the artist (e-mail, website, telephone), and the gallery representing them.
Given the nature of visual artists’ work, a written biography alone doesn’t do justice to it. This site does – or at least it makes a very good start. According to MWW they plan to add many more artists to the site in 2008.
Take a look, but be prepared to spend some time enjoying yourself (heaven forfend!).
More as it happens,
Cheryl
