From BuiltWith to Wikiscanner to Wikirage to….
August 31, 2007
Craig Wood apparently spent some of last weekend putting together the new site, Wikirage, which “lists the pages in Wikipedia which are receiving the most edits per unique editor over various periods of time. Popular people in the news, the latest fads, and the hottest video games can be quickly identified by monitor this social phenomenon.”
Wood (the author of Craig’s Blog and a social site enthusiast) describes Wikirage in his blog as “a quick little Mashable with some exciting value add - taken from following the latest edits of Wikipedia. Latest news quickly floats to the surface as events are updated and revised.” In it you can follow popular Wikipedia page editing by last hour, last 6 hours, last day, last 3 days, last week, and last month.
An entry in Wood’s blog led me to a recent article on Wikiscanner from the social networking news site Mashable.com. Wikiscanner is a site that tracks edits on Wikipedia and identifies Wikipedia editors. And this Wikiscanner article led me to a piece about BuiltWith, a “Web Page Technology Profiler.” And those articles led me on to material about Google Analytics, Mint, Omniture, and Reinvigorate – all basically web site analytics programs.
I had to stop there before I got lost in the tangled web of over-analysis. Suffice it to say, whatever you’re doing on the web, somebody, somewhere, is keeping track of it.
More as it happens,
Cheryl
