Publishing Opportunities Database

February 9, 2009

Here’s a new one on me: EBSCO is now offering the file, Publishing Opportunities Database.

It’s listings of calls for papers by journals and conferences, aimed at faculty, post-docs, and students who want to publish (or present) their research in scholarly fora. EBSCO emphasizes that content is time-sensitive, and that records in the database include vital information for potential authors (including scope and topics on which manuscripts are sought, deadlines, formatting requirements, submission guidelines, and contact information). It runs around $3,000/year to subscribe.

Anyone out there tried this file out yet? I’d be very interested in hearing about how it gets used – please let me know if you have any experience with it.

More as it happens,

Cheryl

Why would I subscribe to that when Beyond the Job and A Library Writer's Blog are free? beyondthejob.org and librarywriting.blogspot.com

Well, librarians might consider subscribing to this to serve their faculty and graduate student researchers; if you take a look at the list of journals monitored at the POD site, you'll see that the file covers many different subjects and disciplines (as well as library science).

Dorothy, those resources might serve the librarians themselves, but this type of database really would be an incredible resource for patrons - academic faculty and students (esp. higher-level), especially in research institutions. :)

Does the service include an RSS feed. The titles would be nice to put on the front page.

Dear All, I am researching such databases for my diploma at present and find your comments on this very interesting and helpful. Any further advantage and disadvantages you may have may help. Not selling these, have to plan PR launch for "pretend" publishers.
