What’s in a Name? NEH’s Office of Digital Humanities
April 17, 2008
The answer to that age-old question is: a lot, when it comes to a change in name at the National Endowment for the Humanities. NEH’s Digital Humanities Initiative has segued into a permanent NEH fixture: the Office of Digital Humanities. That shift from “initiative” to “office” is a milestone for those of us interested in new, interesting, and ongoing online projects in the humanities, and the new ODH website is a good starting point for anyone considering digital projects. Right now at the site you can get information on how to prepare and submit applications for Challenge grants and Fellowships (both with deadlines of May 1st), as well as application information for Fellowships at Digital Humanities Centers and announcements of related upcoming meetings.
For folks interested in digital Humanities information, there’s also a nifty site here at Harvard that brings quite a bit of information together in one place: The Digital Humanities Initiative. It provides links to conferences; councils, centers, and associations; digital library collections, portals, initiatives, and publications; projects in progress; standards and digital tools; and more.
Take a look at both sites if you're interested, and please let me know about others that add to the information pool on digital Humanities.
More as it happens,
Cheryl
