Judge Crutcher

The other of our semi-final judges, Chris Crutcher is a writer of modest intellect and talent, fortunate to have stood at an incredible vantage point (as a therapist and teacher) from which to observe human behavior at its most challenging. Because of the issues he inserts into his characters lives, and because of the hard-edged dialogue he creates for hard-edged characters, his stories are frequently challenged or banned in schools. Though he would rather be boiled in animal waste than caught quoting former President George W. Bush, he nevertheless says, "Bring it on!" Good stories don't always feel good.
