Kids define READER while presenting to Ridley

Sometimes it's the unexpected that blows you away at a conference.  One of the highlights of our state conf occurred during the presentation of the Readers' Choice Award for Dave Barry's and Ridley Pearson's Peter and the Shadow Thieves.  Caleb (presenting for Hassan who was ill) and Kristin brought the breakfast audience to its feet.  Ridley brought us to tears.  Listen carefully as Caleb defines what it means to be a reader.

The unexpected indeed! I am crying buckets to hear from the author how reading his series impacted a young man labelled with Autism. Thanks Joyce!

I also was in the audience to hear Caleb share his poem about reading and was blown away by the eloquence of this student! I was hoping that the entirety of the poem would be posted, but so far I have not been able to find it anywhere. Thanks for providing this peek into the experience for those who couldn't be there.
