Voicethread gets even cooler! NYPL, Creative Commons, and moreAugust 19, 2009 In time for the new school year, it just keeps getting better! Steve Muth of my beloved Voicethread shared an exciting press release this morning about Voicethread's super-cool new features.![]() Make sure you take a look at the new Media Browse and exploit Voicethread's new relationships with the New York Public Library and Flickr and Facebook! The NYPL Digital Collection images display with hyperlinked subject headings, source notes that are easily embedded in presentations, and licensing notes. ![]() The Flickr image choice offers to take users directly into their own Flickr collections or use a handy Flickr Creative Commons search box. Links automatically refer back to an image's original address. ![]() And there's even more VT excitement. Here is Steve's full release: Hello VoiceThreaders,I am pretty excited about all this news and I cannot wait to share all of this (especially the new media browser with its easy access to quality archived images), with teachers. Not to sound ungrateful or anything (700,000 wonderful images and direct linking to Creative Commons are nothing to sneeze at), but I am hoping that this is only the beginning for Voicethread's image portal and instructional partnerships. Am I right, Steve???? Won't those other primary source portals want to get onboard as well? Posted by Joyce Valenza Ph.D on August 19, 2009 | Comments (4)

In response to: Voicethread gets even cooler! NYPL, Creative Commons, and more Steve Muth commented: You bet Joyce, that's the goal. We're creating a list of other great databases that would be great to include so if you have any favorites let us know. Also, you can contact those databases directly and let them know this sort of integration is available to them. We think that making your content more usable is probably a major goal of most great Libraries and databases.

In response to: Voicethread gets even cooler! NYPL, Creative Commons, and more Andrew Wilson, NYPL commented: nypl.voicethread.com is the new portal for The New York Public Library within VoiceThread. We've just posted some ideas for using NYPL Digital Gallery images in the classroom there. You'll also find some VoiceThreads from our "Wonders! Images of the Ancient World" collection. We'll be adding to our collection of VoiceThreads in the future so check back often!

In response to: Voicethread gets even cooler! NYPL, Creative Commons, and more S, Mancusi commented: Sorry - an "out-of-order" request from a reader. Back in the land of "PowerPoint reform" ( which is way less cool than Voice Thread), you once had a student-produced video about the Adventures of Super PowerPoint Man posted on the blog. I would love to show this to 5th grade students - it might work better than the very adult-oriented resources on your PowerPoint reform page. I would be most grateful to be directed to where this might be in the archives, if you have a moment. Many thanks from New Hampshire!
