YouChoose08
March 2, 2008

I see so many reasons to use YouChoose08 in the classroom, but darn it (!), most of us will not be able to access it from school.

YouTube gathers video content from the debates, the super-recent sound bites, best of the week videos, the candidates voices on particular issues--economy, healthcare, education, energy, immigration--election news from YouTube's partner sites, and videos organized by upcoming primaries.

This is a wonderful resource for promoting media literacy, rhetorical analysis, as well as political awareness.  It may also be a lobbying tool for expanded video access.

Please help me edit and grow our baby election pathfinder wiki.  Together, I know, we can build a pretty terrific resource!

Don't forget those in distrcts who block YouTube could use a site like Zamzar.com to "grab" a video on a flashdrive. I've done this MANY times, even though my district that blocks YouTube provides teachers a portal to open it a crack. I find I'd rather download often to keep the focus on the topic rather than the wow factor that it's from YouTube. Cool wiki too! Thanks

I found that my students could view YouTube videos if they were embedded in a blog posting. So this weekend I started a Tumblr site called Guerrilla Teaching Resources to stash appropriate resources. I have my fingers crossed that I'll be able to use it come Monday.

Hi Diane and Cathy! Thanks for sharing the "get arounds." I will look forward to that Guerilla Tumblr. Very cool. I know you know this already: The beauty of these portals is the fact that they are portals. I just wish we could use them as such. They are search tools. We dilute their power by taking them apart.
