GameEd 411

Don't you love it when someone develops a wiki to gather together and organize materials you really need before you even realize you needed them?  Librarians tend to do that.

A big thanks to the good folks at Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES School Library System in Rochester, New York for creating GameEd 411, a wiki for sharing information about free educational digital games.

  

The wiki offers a growing array of game reviews, as well as the recent research and rationale for using games as tools for learning. (See Why Games, Why Now and Wait, there's more!).  Each game listed has its own page to faciliate input and sharing, especially comments about how the game was used in the classroom.  Games are listed alphabetically and searchable by keyword. 

Wiki founder Karen Mitchell shared:

I would like to see this become a resource for teachers who wish to use games in their classroom and welcome input from anyone who can make that happen.

Of course adding titles is important, but to be a true resource teachers will want to know how the game can be used to support a specific subject, lesson, and age group. It will be important to know how much time was needed to successfully set up, play, and reflect on the game and assess learning.  Also, if there were there any special technical considerations.
