Off to NECC!
June 25, 2008
Come Saturday I'm off to San Antonio for
NECC. Each June I struggle with the issue of whether or not I can do both ALA and NECC.
This year it was an especially tough decision. I have serious responsibities at both conferences. But the choice is now made and my compromise allows me to visit Anaheim, as well, through the magic of telecommunication.
If you are at
NECC, please try to say hello. I'd love to meet you. I am desperately curious about who receives my words after I hit
save.
And, if you arrive early, don't miss
Edubloggercon. Last year this free Saturday pre-conference felt like a kind of adult summer camp on steroids. We made powerful connections and friendships. For many of us it was a highlight of the week. I can't wait to expand my network at this year's
unconference.
On Wednesday morning I will be leading a
panel discussion in envisioning the future. My amazing co-panelists include fellow school library bloggers:
Carolyn Foote,
Kim Cofino (virtually from Thailand),
Cathy Nelson,
Diane Cordell,
Anita Beaman, and
Judy O’Connell (all the way from Australia). At this session, we've decided to walk the PowerPoint reform walk. We are talking about our images. No bulleted slides allowed.
I'll also be on the panel of the:
SIGMS Forum: NETS or AASL Standards for 21st-Century Learners—A Standards Debate
Peggy Milam-Creighton, with Doug Johnson, Annette Lamb, Jamie McKenzie and Joyce Valenza
Tuesday, 7/1/2008, 10:30am–12:30pm; HGCC 217 B/C
Featuring a debate on how to interpret and implement the newly revised NETS and AASL standards for the 21st-century learner.
and the:
SIGMS breakfast (hosted by Linworth and ProQuest)
Tuesday, 7/1/2008, 7 AM at the Grand Hyatt (Reservations required. Email your name, title, school or district, address, phone and preferred summer email to linworth@linworthpublishing.com
If you are planning to go to NECC, or if you are merely curious about who is going and what they are thinking, you might consider visiting the
NECC08 Ning Group for Teacher Librarians.
And now I must go and pack. Again.
For those of you who are fans of my packing videos, I'll try to fill you in on my tips for summer packing in an upcoming post.
But seriously, please also look for video highlights of this huge and exciting conference.
