A few new search tools
March 5, 2008
As I always say, Google rocks, but it's not the only band in town.
A new list of
Top 100 Alternate Search Engines for March 2008 was released a couple of days ago--
the most wonderful search engines you've never seen. You can
download the full list in (rather ugly) Excel format.
Edited by Charles Knight,
respected industry analyst and former SEO, the goal of the list is to:
expand coverage of search engines to include the hundreds of alternative / niche search engines. While the editorial attitude will not be “anti-Google”, it will certainly be “pro-alternative search engines” - a showcase of cutting edge innovation. Our goal for AltSearchEngines is to make it the definitive destination for everything related to alternative search engines - over 1,000 of them!
The long list includes old favorites like the visual search tools,
KartOO and
LivePlasma (for music and movies) and
Answers.com for fact searching. It also includes a variety of search tools I never heard of--new searches for blogs, music, health materials, people searching, RSS feeds, etc.
Among my discoveries:
It's time to update my tired
old search tool wiki! I welcome your suggestions, as well.
