Fusenews: Yes! We Have No Bananas. We Have No Bananas Today!
May 10, 2008

  • Chad Beckerman shows us that when it comes to wimpy kids, no two are exactly alike.  His blog posts the different covers of the hit Diary of a Wimpy Kid .  Of them all, this may have been my favorite:

Germany rocks but Brazil wins.  If anyone can tell me what "Banana" means in Portugese, I'd be entirely grateful.

  • An interview with Michael Bond in the Times Online shows that the man's still got it.  And I've read the newest Paddington book.  Trust me.  This guy's writing somehow fails to age. Thanks to the PW's Children's Bookshelf for the link.

"Rocket Licensing has inked a deal with UK indie producer Mentorn Media , to produce a factual TV series based on the book The Dangerous Book for Boys .  The TV series, titled Dangerous Adventures For Boys, which will air on Five (UK) later this year in 6x60 episodes, follows celebrity dads and their sons as they embark on various expeditions."

  • Co-worker Warren points out on his blog Children's Music That Rocks that adult celebrities dipping their toe into the lucrative world of children's products is a phenomenon not solely relegated to literature.  He lists five musicians and bands that are making a similar switch from adult tunes to melodies for the kiddies and some may well surprise you.  Natalie Merchant?  Really?

  • Daily Image:

I don't usually get excited about much.  But I love this idea, featured on Tech Darling, of people going to extremes to keep others from looking at their computer screens or handheld devices.

It's like Mummenschanz gone techno.  Mom?  If you're reading this I would just love one of those laptop cozies for long plane trips.  Thanks to Rebecca for the link.

I think I've gotta go with cables there. Yes, definitely cables.

Banana is Brazilian slang for wimp. More interestingly, "legal" is Brazilian slang for "cool". The placement of the NYT blurb along with the word banana kind of makes that cover a little suggestive.

It may not just be a matter of privacy -- Have you ever tried to use a computer at the playground or pool while your children play? (Rhetorical question.) I can't seem to see the screen at either of these places and therefore can't get work done there. Those computer privacy screens would seem to solve the sun glare problem. Now if only they had stragic holes so that we could also see what our kids were up to.... -wendieO
