Video Sunday: Bubble Gum and Cottages

    November 15, 2009

"Make a World : the Film" Teaser from makeaworldfilm on Vimeo.

A show of hands. How many of you knew that there was a documentary about Ed Emberley being made called Ed Emberley's Make the World: A Film? Well, the film is on FaceBook and Twitter, in case you'd like to support it.  Thanks to Drawn for the link.

Back in 2004 Bill Moyers interviewed Maurice Sendak about WTWTA.  I never saw it originally, but the link is available for one and all to see.  Thanks to @ABCKristen for the link.

One of my favorite author/illustrators has gone and made herself one of the finest picture book trailers of the year, bar none.  This is absolutely fantastic.  I just regret I hadn't seen it sooner.

Where she found Brigitte Bardot singing "Bubble Gum" I'll never know.  In any case, gonna get me some Pop by Meghan McCarthy when it comes out.  Uh-huh, uh-huh.  Thanks to Abby (the) Librarian for the link.

Speaking of awesome ladies and their videos, did you know that Laurie Halse Anderson makes a fine documentarian?  In this little vid we see the writer's ultimate dream: The writing cottage.  Says the description: "Laurie Halse Anderson recounts the conception and building of her writing cottage. The cottage is off-grid and was built to be easy on the environment as well as warm and quiet. It was designed and built for her by her husband, who is a carpenter, and several of his friends."

    Beautiful.

Finally, I cannot embed the first off-topic video I wanted to do (Kuricorder Quartet - Imperial March).  So I'll just have to settle for this dry piece of British wit instead.  This is the Buckingham Palace Marching Band
and evidence of their sense of humor.

Ed Emberley is the man! This movie looks like a fitting tribute -- let's hope it wins a Doc Oscar and E.E. gets a well-earned moment on the word stage.

Oh, oh, oh, I am in the throes of serious Cottage Lust! This cannot be good for me... or maybe it can! It's a pleasure just to know that a thing of such beauty and thoughtful utility and love exists in the world. Bliss!
