Central Children's Room Memories: Lisa Richland

The third in a series of memories by people who love the Central Children's Room of New York Public Library.
I lived in Brooklyn and was an active library user. I was also an advanced reader and frustrated by the idea that I was expected to stay in the children’s rooms of all the libraries I used in my area. I heard about the Donnell library with its marvelous children’s focus, so I got myself on the BMT into Manhattan and visited. The children’s room was great, but the best part about it was that I felt completely comfortable wandering the stacks in the adult non-fiction collection. At last! I could read and borrow whatever struck my fancy. This experience stayed with me. I will never forget the welcome I felt, and I try to keep it in mind when I work with the adolescents who use the library here in Greenport.
