Video Sunday - Trailer and More
November 4, 2007

So last night I'm at a friend's going away party and one of the fellows there just happens to have come from a book trailer shoot for Libba Bray's newest book. This is a trailer with a budget of $10,000, which may or may not be the trend these days. On the lower end of the scale are plucky independent book trailer projects done by teen fans of the titles themselves. Here then is our very own Miss Erin, teen lit blogger extraordinaire, with a trailer she made for Into the Wild. Note just how shocking it is to see real teens playing teens. It boggles the mind.

Monica recently linked to this trailer for The Golden Compass, but in German. Gives the whole movie a different flavor entirely, don't you think?

I should save this for Christmas but...... nahhhh. Anyone who has read Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas by Russell Hoban has probably also seen the Jim Henson version. But have you seen the outtakes?

Those of you living in or near to Rochester, NY, you have my sincere envy. The Dryden Theatre will be presenting a series called Muppets, Music, & Magic: Jim Henson's Legacy which will culminate with a full unedited viewing of Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas. You lucky dogs. Thanks to Adrienne for the link!

Children's Illustration had a Halloween video up not too long ago featuring these characters. I have to admit, I'm rather attached to them. Check it out:

And finally, the off-topic posting of the day. My father-in-law sent this to me and though it has little to nothing to do with kidlit, I felt obligated to post it.

I thought that Snowball might be an exceptional cockatoo. Then I looked on YouTube and found cockatoo after cockatoo after cockatoo and they were ALL great dancers. The scary thing? Each one has a different style. Eerie.

Sigh...I wish we could edit our comments. I'm always making mistakes.

I'm actually kind of fond of the flub. It's somewhat Bizarro Supermanish. But what scene is it? Is it at the end? Gotta go rewatch . . .

Hmm...now that I think about it, it may still be in the movie. I was thinking of a scene in the far North, but forgot about her going to Asriel. So I'm probably wrong and it is still in the movie.

I love the part in the Jugband outtakes where Emmett says he can't chase the drum b/c his feet are stapled to the floor. Had me rolling.

Actually, they are. I didn't realize it when I posted them, but they actually appear on the latest DVD version. Mind you, that version is edited, so it's not perfect, but at least you have these to enjoy.
