Half Way (One Thing at a Time)
August 8, 2008
We are at the half way point. How are you doing? Are some of you overwhelmed? Are there too many Things? Not enough?
One of our participants
Deb writes at "Testing the Waters:"
Well…I’ve read about Things 3, 4, and 5 (being podcasts, wikis, and FlickR). I’ve written a few notes about them and put that aside, since none of those can be accessed at my school yet because of security filters. But we have been allowed permission to use EduBlogs (at least for now) and so I have started a new blog that I plan to advertise and use at school this year for my media program. The VPAA Media Blog (that may get a better name when I ask the students to get involved) can be accessed at http://vpaamedia.edublogs.org.
The cool part about focusing on this one tool is that I have learned a lot about RSS feeds and chicklets and widgets and dashboards in the process of setting it up! I am so happy and proud that I figured out how to put my FeedBurner RSS feed chicklet on my new blog page! I’ve also added the Google Analytics tool and can’t wait to see how much the blog is used.
So the point of this story is - one step at a time - one Thing at a time - and soon I will be on to a new Thing to enhance my media program at school. I will continue to participate in SLJ All Together Now to learn about the other Things, but for now, I’m moving full speed ahead with RSS and Blogging and am happy with all I’m learning so far! Podcasting is the next Thing I hope to embrace and put to good use.
Deb offers good advice. Do what you can - one
Thing at a time. Some may be more useful and more easily accessed than others. Others it may just be good to read about, file away and go on. Ponder ways to get access at your school. Ponder how you might incorporate the Things into your teaching.
Congrats to all who are making this journey
