Halloween is just around the corner, which is reflected in this week's picks. Also check out the second volume in the POP Wonderland Series from Dark Horse, this time featuring Little Red Riding Hood. The second issue of Boom! Studio's Muppet Peter Pan is out this week, while DC Comics must deal with The Attack of the Caped Creature in Batman: Brave and the Bold. Learning to fly turns out to be the least of Mikey's problems. As G-Man he must cope with a host of unpleasant surprises, such as the bratty son of a superhero, the crazy activities at the Sunnyside Superhero Summercamp, the Christmas Tree of Doom, and, worst of all, his brother Dave, aka Great Man. Rather than the more usual story covering a parent objecting to graphic novels in the library, in this case this article reported library staff at the Jessamine County Library, located in Nicholasville, Kentucky, stepped in to prevent what they dubbed "porn" from being distributed to a child (an eleven year old girl.) The article, as you can see, is short and under-informed: the women in question were not librarians but circulation desk attendants, and the distinction between masters' degree holding librarians and circulation staff is an important one in the library sphere. The spelling errors and slant of the article may call into question the facts as presented. Hey! It's the pets edition of the all ages comics list this week. Diary of a Wimpy Kid vol 4 is out, and is about the "dog" days of summer. Who is this new addition to the Heffley family? Then there's everyone's favorite Great Dane, Scooby-Doo, who has to face down a giant snake that probably wouldn't make such a good pet. He's also perparing to his the big 150! He's not too far behind Sonic the Hedgehog, who's third series sees it's 9th issue out this week. Reading with Pictures is a new non-profit organization that plans to research the best ways to use comics in the classroom (and outside it) and work with teachers to implement them.
