Linkfest: Everybody's talkin'

December 4, 2008

Kiel Phegley of Comic Book Resources talks to Matt Loux about the second volume of Salt Water Taffy, which was released last month.

Also at CBR, Alex Dueben interviews Scott Christian Sava about The Dreamland Chronicles.

Johanna Draper Carlson has some news from Archie Comics at Comics Worth Reading: They're putting out
archives of older Archie comics on DVDs, and the Sabrina the Teenage Witch manga series is coming to a close.

The Daily Cross Hatch talks to Frank Cammuso, creator of Knights of the Lunch Table and Otto's Orange Day, about his accidental career as an all-ages comics artist. (Via Journalista.)

Kids should read comics! That's the opinion of no less an authority than Stinky Cheese Man creator Jon Scieszka, who regards them as a greatway to the Great Books.

And the British seem to agree: The UK paper The Herald reports that sales of kids' comics, including my childhood favorites The Beano and The Dandy, are up in Britain. (Via The Comics Reporter.)

This seems to be making the rounds this week; I picked it up from Journalista but other sites have featured it as well: Some bloggers have noticed that the lead character in Emily the Strange bears a striking resemblance to Rosamond, the weird girl in Nate the Great. I sort of wonder if that's a straight steal or if it's a case of two different creators using the same standard character template (see: Wednesday Addams). The link above also sends us to an interview with the Emily creators from last June.

It's old but it's good: Kristy Valenti revisits D. Aviva Rothschild's Graphic Novels: A Bibliographic Guide to Book-Length Comics, vintage 1995, at comiXology.

Reviews:

R.J. Carter on Bone: Crown of Horns (The Trades)
Billy Aguiar on vol. 1 of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Prospero's Manga)
Russ Burlingame on Li'l Hero Artists #1 (Blog@Newsarama)
Sean T. Collins on The Seven Crystal Balls (Attentiondeficitdisorderly too Flat)
Chris Wilson on issues 1-10 of Thor (The Graphic Classroom)
Johanna Draper Carlson on Tiny Titans #10, among others (Comics Worth Reading)
Greg McElhatton on Usagi Yojimbo, #114-115 (Read About Comics)
