Welcome, Bernd Merker!

July 16, 2008 Please give a warm shout out (Guten Tag!) to Librarian, Bernd Merker, visiting from the City Library of Leipzig in Germany. Merker is working - close to my home - at a Queens, NY library and blogging about intercultural library work at the Librarian in Residence Blog  - only until July 18.

Here's the email announcement from the Goethe-Institut New York (Photo Courtesy):

In the context of a grant-funded residency in New York, Bernd Merker, a librarian from the Public Library in Leipzig, Germany, writes a daily blog until July 18 about his experiences in the Queens Library in "intercultural library work". An English translation of each day’s entry appears a few hours after the German original.

Meanwhile, I'm having a devil of a time trying to figure out the blog's English translation feature. Not  to worry. That's where language translators come in handy.

Danke schön!

Speaking of online language translators, why are foreign language teachers so against using them in school? It seems like they could serve some purpose. No?

Dear Amy,
sorry for answering so late.
Thank you for the warm welcome.
My visit in Queens was very interesting for me and I took a lot of good ideas back to Leipzig.

I wish you a nice day..

Bernd

Thanks, Bernd!
Don't make yourself a stranger the next time you come to Queens. It's a great town!
