Writers Against Racism: Bowllan's Mailbag

November 1, 2009 Dear Amy,

I so much enjoy your blog on SLJ.

I remember that you wrote a great piece about CLAUDETTE COLVIN: TWICE TOWARDS JUSTICE last spring.  I thought you might like to see a YouTube I have just pulled together from photos and audio clips of author Phillip Hoose and Claudette's recent appearances.

You can SO see the spark that drove her at 15 to stand alone against Jim Crow.

Phil and Claudette are quite over the moon about the nomination for the NBA -- as you can imagine.  What a year for books.

Again, thanks for your fabulous column.

Many Thanks & Read Well,

Kirsten Cappy

What a fantastic YouTube clip! What a fantastic story! What else do we not know? I'll be cheering for Phil and Claudette when the NBAs are announced.

Thank you, George! Her book is not only beautiful, but adds a piece of history that should sit on every library shelf.
As always, thanks for your continued support. :)

Claudette is such a fiesty lady with a strong conscience that you can easily see how she would decide to fight injustice. She's an inspiration and a joy to listen to when she talks about changing the world, no matter how young or what color you are.
