Happy Mother's Day, Sr. Camille!
May 9, 2008

With Mother's Day quickly approaching I would love for you - my loyal reader - to give your mom some love. Email me a note saying why your mom is/was special. I will post it
HERE -- with a picture of course. Here's my mom. Please meet Sr. Camille - yes, my mom is a nun and she is special because after raising ten children she entered a cloistered monastery to pray for peace in the world. And while I am not able to speak to her often, her spirit is felt. Thanks, mom!

Troy Morris, from Wetpaint  writes...
Why is my mom special?  She has been teaching in the same school district for over 33  (or so, I lost track) years.  She has recently completed her Masters degree.  After she broke her back, she defied expectations by re-learning to walk. These are just a few of the hallmarks of my mom's greatest attribute: pushing for that little bit extra.

Even though she is constantly pushing me to achieve that little bit extra in my own life, she's completely proud and supportive of what I do-- even the crazy, spontaneous, "what's your dream today" stuff.

Author, Helen Frost writes...

My mother raised ten children too, Amy--she's 91 now, and still
amazing us all with her good humor and strong spirit.
Here she is walking again, after surgery put her into a wheelchair
for about ten weeks.
Happy Mother's Day!

Katherine writes...

Amy, Happy Mother's Day...

My mother is special because
    She has given me life,
    Never abandoned me,
Everyday I wake up, I see one of the most loving and committed women in the world.
I am who I am because she is the best role model.
She stops at nothing to show me her love,
She helped me raise my two beautiful girls (Katyana and Jolai),
Now that she could rest because she does not have to baby sit, she wakes up every morning to drop my
    girls off to school,
She brings them their lunch, helps with lunch duty, and picks them up after school,
All these things makes up my loving dedicated mom.
    Thank you mom for everything.

My only prayer is that God gives her health and that I can fill her shoes as good as she does.

Camille Grace Stoney started her life in Brooklyn as the second daughter to Robert & Ruth Stoney. When she was 8 years old her parents introduced her to a life in a boarding school in a convent : Mt. Providence. This was a water shed event in her life. Camille was so saddened by being separated from her parents and her life in Brooklyn; that she went out alone, to nearby field and fashioned two bobby pins in the sign of the Cross and prayed with heart and soul to go back home. I bet she made promises to God. Who knew how that action would ignite a deep love and commitment and a life that is a testimony to faith and God's Love for us all. Camille went on to: marry, mother 7 children, raise 10, earn her Nursing Degree - followed by her Master's degree while taking in her sister's three chilren. She played a lot of competetive tennis and wrote extensively. She recently retired from her Professorship of Nursing at Queensboro Community College and has achieved countless awards and recognitions in her life. After her youngest son was murdered in 1995 a new cross was being fashioned in her heart. In 2003 she buried her husband and by 2005, decided to enter the Monestery life. Full circle huh? There is so much more to write about her but this is the story I wanted to share here~ hope you enjoy meeting Camille, my mother and a remarkable woman. God bless you and keep you I love you .
