Playing on Mom's Day

Being the mother of 4 boys, I spend my Mother's Day in unique ways. One year it was bowling, one it was playing putt-putt golf, one year seeing the movie "The Mummy" until #4 son got scared and we had to go out in the hallway. This year I'm playing games with my sons online. Two are on Army bases working away, two are here in the house doing projects for school, but all of us are playing online games. 

#4 son prefers CounterStrike and Steam
#3 son chooses Runescape
#2 son is playing Mabinogi and writing up a post for you about it
#1 son loves CounterStrike and Day of Defeat

I love Civilization because of the strategy and control I have. If I don't want the winner to achieve it through battle & world domination, I can fix the rules playing by myself. I prefer gaining all the knowledge possible and building Wonders of the World like the Great Library, Leonardo's Workshop and cool intellectual stuff.  

When I play online with my sons, they attack my cities with the masses of troops they've built and try to steal all my technology. Is there a happy medium in our generation gap of game playing?  Who knows? But this year we are all chatting online and by cell phone, running in and looking at each other's computers and competitvely challenging each other to "top that one."

Later today we'll gather and play Mah-jong, Scrabble, and Boggle. If I drag out the real puzzles, everyone will scatter and hide because I am a very serious puzzler. #3 and #4 sons did buy a chocolate cake and made coffee to ensure today was wonderful. They even took the trash to the dump/recycling center for me. Everyone is healthy and we are all having fun together and virtually. This is a good day. I hope you are enjoying yours.
