Fantasy Worlds
May 11, 2008

Is anyone out there creating lists of games for teens to play online? How about creating lists for parents and librarians? Sure, I know they're out there. But where? Many of the "cool sites" I see come from my sons racing in with a laptop to show me or emailing me screen shots.

#2 son tells me that he thinks Middle-School kids will love to play Mabinogi.com because it is a fantasy world that protects you from nasty stuff. I'm still checking it out myself.  If you know anything about it, let me know.

There are videotutorials, guides, maps, and more. #2 son keeps reassuring me that I don't have to battle. In fact, I can even create music to make the others happy.  He sent me two screen shots of his character playing musical instruments. One was around a campfire because he knows I love bonfires and music.  The other image showed him interacting with different people so I could know he isn't just playing against a computer, but was making decisions with real players around the world.

His selling point was that one episode taught him how to get a part-time job.

It's rough being a parent and trying to help children make gaming decisions. Compared to the blood and destruction of Counterstrike, Day of the Dead, etc., I'll take a sweet little fantasy world tonight.

Thanks, Z-Man.

Diane, I tried to visit Mabinogi.com but all I got was a Korean movie -- with some bears attacking kids and kids fighting back.... Could you put a link to the game site?

Try going to this site and work your way in: mabinogi.nexon.net If it were easy to immediately grasp, my sons wouldn't be interested in playing. So much takes time. I'm still waiting to hear from anyone over 21 participating in their fantasy life.
