ALA Banquet Survival

I lived through it. Here are some 
shots of one of my conference roomies - Nancy Dickinson, director on the AASL Board. Nancy's dress is lovely. She is so classy.
This chickie is no "red carpet" gal. I was too shy to show you the myriad of crossover straps on the back of this dress that roomie Allison fixed so precisely.
I was so disappointed that my son was unable to get leave and be my escort for the Inaugural Ball.
(Shh! Don't tell him because I don't want him to feel bad that I had to walk in alone) I didn't want to bother anyone else and was too shy to ask anyone to hold me up as we were introduced.
Could there actually be people who enjoy walking down "red carpets", being announced, and having others applaud as they enter? I respect them, but I'd much rather have been curled up with a good notebook of work for today's meeting.
For those of you who think I'm exaggerating, I'm not. I'll include a few photos, but my battery died so I'll have to link you to Sara Kelly John's flickr account later today. I'm disappointed because I want to show you everyone else instead of me, but you will just have to settle today.
Fortunately I had Joseph Eagan and James Cook behind me to push in case I panicked at the door and froze. I made it down the crowd towards the line at front and took one step on the dance floor. I realized immediately that I was wearing platform shoes (to prevent tripping on the dress) and that they THUNDERED across the floor, so I ended up tiptoeing across the front to my place. I was so relieved to be able to go sit down at the table.
Gonna go retire this dress and breathe easier while I attend meetings all day long today. Thank you for taking this trip through ALA Conference with me.

P.S. I told my roommates I'm going to fire them because none of them knew how to french-braid or updo my hair. <sigh> I tried to straighten and control it, but "I am what I am and that's all that I am."
