ALA Events - AASL Standards & the President's Program

July 2, 2009

AASL President's Program: Literacy, Leadership and Librarian Flair: Engaging 21st-Century Readers with Three Award Winning Young Adult and Children's Authors on Saturday, July 11th at 10:30 a.m. (McCormick Place West, Room W-184). Laurie Halse Anderson, Alan Sitomer, and Jacqueline Woodson will describe ways in which librarians can engage 21st-Century readers. As the members of the ALA Conference committee including Karen Gavigan say, "You don't want to miss this all-star lineup of authors!"

Susan D. Ballard wrote on the AASLForum list: Like many of you, I wouldn't think of missing the President's Program! And as a warm-up event, the members of AASL's Standards and Guidelines Implementation Task Force hope you will join us as we "Celebrate" Standards for the 21st Century Learner and Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs - together at last! This event is slated for 9:30 -to 10:30 a.m. and is the lead in to the President's Program and will be held in the same venue. We promise some fun and the opportunity to continue to appreciate the value that our new standards and guidelines provide. Oh, and did we mention – there will be cake! And some other goodies too, so please try and come by for both the celebration and the camaraderie.

Cake? Did she say "cake"?! Yes, that's another event to add to my very full event calendar.

I also added to my event planner an event that I "wish" I could attend just in case the other 4 places I have to be finish early (such wishful thinking) AASL Standards for 21st Century Learners in a Read...? McCormick Place West 470A 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM on 07/11

So far my Google Calendar schedule looks a little packed. I wonder just how many meetings I am forgetting to put on the calendar? Some of my events are invitation only and I'm trying to remember to just how many I have responded. I'm sure your calendar looks like mine. I think there is a way to make my schedule map out my locations, but I wonder if Google decides which of the 4 events simultaneously occurring I should attend first.
