Get Comicly Creative with ToonDo
April 13, 2007
If you have ever aspired to being a comic strip creator, this is your big break. ToonDo,a new website from Jambav and AdventNet (the parent company of Zoho), puts you in command of your new comic world. For such a "kid" concept, this software is amazingly powerful. I can't help but think that they took all the best ideas from classics like KidPix and Storybook Weaver and put them online for everyone to enjoy.
How do you get started? Because you know you want to... Browse on over to
ToonDo and click on the "register" link.
The site is using AdventNet's very reasonable signup process of putting in a username, password, and e-mail address. No confirmation needed, just fill in the three items, one click, and then log in to get started. To begin comic development, click on "Create your own!" and start thinking of ideas while the software loads. The interface is simple, and certainly kid friendly, but quite elegant at the same time.
I can think of many ways to use this in a library: make a funny point at a faculty meeting, explain key information literacy concepts in an amusing new way, start a comic strip book review, or just have a bit of fun. In the end, this new tool is just amazingly neat to play with!
So go forth and toon it up this Friday.
