Gaming: Carcassonne and Settlers of Catan
December 11, 2007

To kick off the game reviews, here are two tile-based games that I mentioned last week.

Carcassonne

This tile placing game is based on the landscape of southern France in medieval times. Players score points by completing cities, roads, monasteries, and farms. Addresses Social Studies standards for geography and economics and encourages higher levels of spatial awareness.
Level: Middle/High    Players: 2-5    Time: 30 minutes

Settlers of Catan
Resource management is the key to success in this game. As you build settlements and improve them into an empire of cities, careful placement to maximize your potential resources is critical. This game addresses geography and economics, but also requires careful planning and flexibility.
Level: High    Players: 3-4    Time: 60-90 minutes
